Summary
A letter to Richard Richardson of Capenhurst, near Chester, from his cousin Mrs Emma Constable of 19, Monmouth St. White Lyon St, Soho Sq. dated Dec. 14th, 1813. The letter is handwritten in ink on both sides of cream coloured paper which is folded in on itself to form an 'envelope' and fixed with a seal which has been cut away and is attached to the centre fold. She tells of her loss of 7 shillings income from her scholars due to the fact that the Government had withdrawn halfpences. Her son had arrived at Southampton from Pampalona in the frigate Volontair which had landed three hundred French prisoners of war. After taking the Duke of Bedford and friends to Lisbon, the frigate was to sail and search for French ships. She sends her wishes for the happy returns of the approaching season. Impressed on the letter is 'Derby Museum Service'.
