Summary
A letter from Emma Constable of London, to Richard Richardson of Capenhurst near Chester, dated 30.9.1812. It is handwritten in ink on both sides of a cream coloured sheet of paper. On the front left-hand side is the name and address of Richard Richardson. The letter has been folded to form an envelope and was fixed with a seal which has been cut around and is attached beneath the address. The letter thanks Richard Richardson for his kindness, states that Mrs. Shipley is declining to pay over the money he sent. She explains her outgoings, mentions her school which has 20 day pupils, relates Mr. Gardon's defrauding others, and Mrs. Shipley's claiming salvage on a sloop of war. Impressed centrally are the words 'Derbyshire Museum Service'. Enclosed is a small typewritten sheet with a précis of the letter's contents.
