Summary
A letter from Mrs Emma Constable, of London, to her cousin Richard Richardson Esq. of Capenhurst, Chester, dated June 13th 1801. The letter has been handwritten in ink on both sides of a sheet of cream coloured paper which has been folded in on itself to form an 'envelope' and fixed with a seal which has been cut away and is attached to the centre fold of the letter. On the front left-hand side is Richard Richardson's name and address. The letter gives an account of a recent visit from her husband, and the rejection, by her, of his offer to cohabit again - she fears he will sell her up if she refuses, (which she intends to do on behalf of her two children's welfare), and meantime begs for £17 to take her clothes and furniture out of pawn. Impressed on the letter are the words 'Derbyshire Museum Service'.
