Summary
A late 1920s or 1930s black painted wooden baby's pram with a white painted trim, made by Montford. It is low slung, but not as low as 1920s for safety reasons. It has unusual metal protection plates on the hood. The hood is made from ‘rexine’ material. It has small handles on bracket (on hood) for ease of folding. The inner edge of the hood is trimmed with a cream braid decorated with a Greek key pattern. The pram has a black painted fabric or rexine removable apron. The body of the pram is attached to the black painted, sprung metal chassis with six adjustable brown leather straps. Two axles attached to the chassis each support a pair of metal spoked wheels. The front wheels are inset to the rear wheels and each has a solid white rubber tyre. The metal brake lever has become detached, however the brake mechanism engages on the two front wheels. The curved chrome handle has a black plastic hand rail. The interior of the pram is lined and upholstered with a black plastic-coated fabric which matches the hood. There are three removable cushions made of black painted fabric or rexine which match the apron. Beneath each cushion is a black painted wooden panel. Each has a hole drilled through enabling the panel to be lifted out. On either side of the interior of the pram are a pair of leather restraining straps, each with a metal sprung clasp. Total number of items is 9.
Marks and inscriptions
