Summary
A child's moulded and painted china plate (circa 1850) with a transfer image of a child sleeping on a chaise longue above which are angels and a window (circa 1850). Above and beneath the image are two lines of verse. The transfer image is picked out in blue, yellow, green and brown paint. The rim of the plate is decorated with three rows of raised flowers.
Marks and inscriptions
Centre of the plate: 'I lay my body down to sleep/ Let angels guard my head./ And through the hours of darkness keep./ Their watch around my bed.'
