Summary
One of the puppets made for and used by the ‘Lilliput Marionette Theatre’. This marionette was not identified by former company members, however, this is probably a character from the play 'Hansel and Gretel'. It is part of a wooden marionette, consisting of the head of an owl. It has been carved and painted a greeny-brown, with black detailing around the eyes and beak, and along the 'ears'. Its eyes are formed by inserting two clear glass marbles, and at each side of its head is a ring for attaching strings. Inside the head are two short pieces of strong cord, presumably for joining to the rest of its body.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mr E Hellawell in 1982.
