Summary
One of the puppets made for and used by the ‘Lilliput Marionette Theatre’ (circa 1940 - 1982). This marionette is described as the 'Caliph' from a play entitled 'The Lost Princess' or 'Kalif (Caliph) Stork'. It is complete with control, which is in two parts, and the stringing. The Caliph has a fancy cream coloured turban with orange vertical decoration and a blue velvet crown. He has a carved brown face with brown eyes, a hooked nose and a black beard which is hair or nylon stuck on. He is wearing a blue velvet waistcoat, a blue and lurex jacket and blue gauze baggy trousers. He has a pearl necklace, bead decorations on the jacket and a highly decorated orange cummerbund. He has moulded hands which have rings on and carved feet which have carved slippers with curled up toes painted red. There are metal weights on the soles of the feet.
Provenance
