Summary
Prints, engraving, Marigold Garden (after Kate Greenaway) by Edmund Evans (Southwark 1826 - Ventnor 1905). A green cardboard portfolio containing a set of five proofs of hand-engraved woodblocks cut by Edmund Evans for Kate Greenaway's book 'Marigold Garden'. Also in the portfolio are two explanatory sheets, one about the production of the proofs, the other about Kate Greenaway and Edmund Evans. The sheet about the proofs' production includes a box which reads 'Limited Edition. This Portfolio of five proofs is limited to an edition of One Thousand, of which this Portfolio is No 0187 (stamped) London, November 1973'. Each proof consists of a colour-printed page on cream paper, stuck to a much larger sheet of stiff grey paper, which has a border around the page printed in dark grey. Two of the pages have poems to accompany the pictures. Also in the portfolio are two pages from 'The Illustrated London News Christmas Number, 1956' which feature colour illustrations by Kate Greenaway, along with the nursery rhymes they represent. Total number of items is 10.
