Summary
A knitted girl scarecrow doll named Susie one of ‘The Twins’, part of a knitted scarecrow family (circa 1988). Doll has an attached hat, scarf, skirt and bloomers, with caterpillar character also attached. The doll has yellow acrylic yarn hair sewn onto the head, underneath a stripy multicoloured woolly hat with pompom attached at the top, made from pieces of green acrylic yarn. The doll has a white face with black felt eyes, an orange carrot knitted nose and red lips both made from acrylic yarn, with painted on rosey cheeks. She has a dark blue knitted body with an attached knitted pink scarf, with pieces of green acrylic yarn at the ends. On her right shoulder a brown caterpillar character is attached. Her skirt is attached to the body. It is a yellow knitted skirt with multicoloured stripy hem. At the front and back are two red knitted buttons attached. Underneath the skirt are attached red knitted bloomers. The cuffs are pieces of sewn on yellow acrylic yarn. The doll has red and black knitted shoes. This was knitted by the donor's mother Margaret Thompson, part of a collection of 7 knitted scarecrow dolls and a small Father Christmas. The knitting patterns for all the dolls are by Jean Greenhowe.
