Summary

A knitted male scarecrow doll named Grandpa, part of a knitted scarecrow family(circa 1988). Doll has attached flat cap, waistcoat, scarf, walking stick and snail. The doll has yellow acrylic yarn hair sewn onto the head, underneath a light blue flat cap with a knitted snail character on the top. The doll has a white face with black felt eyes, a pink carrot knitted nose and yellow acrylic yarn moustache, with painted on rosey cheeks. He has a green knitted body with an attached knitted multicoloured scarf around his neck. His red knitted waistcoat is attached to the body. On the right hand side of the waistcoat is a silver and blue medal with a black knitted star in the middle. The cuffs are pieces of sewn on yellow acrylic yarn. He has a knitted blue and black belt. His trousers are part of the body, with brown and white horizontal stripes and light blue patch detail on the left leg. The ends are pieces of sewn on yellow acrylic yarn. The doll has brown and black knitted shoes. Attached to the right hand is a brown knitted walking stick. This was knitted by the donor's mother Margaret Thompson, part of a collection of 7 knitted scarecrow dolls and a small Father Christmas. The knitting patterns for all the dolls are by Jean Greenhowe.
