Summary
A knitted male scarecrow doll named Sam, part of a knitted scarecrow family (circa 1988). Doll has attached hat and coat, with mouse, robin and ladybird attached. The doll has yellow acrylic yarn hair sewn onto the head, underneath a green hat with a mouse attached on the top. The doll has a white face with black felt eyes, an orange carrot knitted nose and red lips both made from acrylic yarn, with painted on rosey cheeks. He has a red knitted body with an attached knitted dark blue bow tie. His coat is attached to the body. It is light blue with an acrylic knitted pink flower and green stem attached to the right lapel of his coat and red knitted buttons attached to the lower left side of the jacket. The cuffs are pieces of sewn on yellow acrylic yarn. A knitted robin character has been attached to his left shoulder. His trousers are part of the body, with stripy brown and white detailing and green and yellow belt. The ends are pieces of sewn on yellow acrylic yarn. The doll has brown and black knitted shoes with a knitted ladybird on the right foot. This was knitted by the donor's mother Margaret Thompson, part of a collection of 7 knitted scarecrow dolls and a small Father Christmas. The knitting patterns for all the dolls are by Jean Greenhowe.
