Summary

A wind-up musical dog toy from c.1960 - 1970. Said to be 'Lady' from the Walt Disney movie 'Lady and the Tramp' by the donor, although this isn't certain as the markings aren’t quite the same as any of the dogs in the movie, The dog is in a sitting position and made of black and white fake fur, mostly short, though longer and 'bushier' on her ears and tail. The body is stuffed. The body, legs, head and tail are black, with white feet, ears, chest and underside and a white stripe across the centre of the head from muzzle to base of skull. She has plastic eyes painted white, blue and black, a red and white felt mouth and a black leather patch stitched on for the nose. The pads of the dog's paws are made of white felt and black wool has been stitched on to mark her toes. She wears an orange ribbon around her next, tied in a bow and white fabric label sticking out of her chest with red writing. The label is so disintegrated that the writing is illegible. The toy has another label stitched to the pad of her back, right paw made of yellow / beige fabric with the place of manufacturer. In the centre of the her back is a metal 'key' which winds her up and makes her play Brahms 'Lullaby'.

Marks and inscriptions

Label stitched to pad of right back paw: 'MERRYTHOUGHT IRONBRIDGE, SHROPS MADE IN ENGLAND'
