Summary
An early Gabrielle Paddington bear; a teddy bear wearing a duffel coat, a hat and wellingtons. The character of Paddington Bear originally appeared in the books written by Michael Bond and illustrated by Peggy Fortnum. The bear is made from pale brown fake fur and solidly-stuffed. He has plastic orange eyes with black pupils and a moulded black plastic nose with slight wearing. He has orange felt-padded feet. His red felt duffel coat has a hood and two pockets and is complete with four light brown wooden toggles, one of which does not exactly match the others. Attached to his bottom left toggle is a luggage tag. Printed in black on the label is: 'DARKEST PERU TO LONDON, ENGLAND via PADDINGTON Stn DESIGN REGISTRATION No. 957892' and on the reverse is 'Please look after this bear'. The hat is made from brown felt and has a wide rim. He has a pair of blue Dunlop wellington boots which have light brown rubber soles and are lined with white cotton.
