Summary
A soft toy Paddington Bear (circa 2007), made from light brown fur fabric with black plastic eyes, a black felt nose and brown ink 'pads' on his feet. His mouth and hand details are sewn in black embroidery thread. He is sewn into a sitting position and is wearing a blue polyester fleece duffel coat and a red felt, wide-brimmed hat. The hooded duffel coat has plastic toggles made to resemble wooden ones. These are attached to the coat by red cord and brown imitation leather semicircles. His hat has a quite high crown, with the front part of the wide brim stitched to it. Around his neck is a cream 'luggage label' on which is printed in black 'Please look after this Bear Thank You' on one side and 'Darkest Peru to London, England via Paddington Stn. Please remove this tag and save'. Sewn into a seam at the base is a white ribbon label embroidered in turquoise with copyright, manufacturer's details and cleaning instructions.
Provenance
Purchased for the Museum of Childhood by Mrs Sue J. Fraser (Collections Assistant) in August 2007.
