Summary

A greetings card offering congratulations on the birth of a baby. The card is white, with an insert of pale yellow paper. The lower half of the front is printed with broad pale yellow stripes possibly representing a blanket, as it seems to be held up by a row of pink buttons, hanging from one of which is a sign printed with 'little one X'. In the bottom right-hand corner is an image of two yellow chicks and a safety pin. Printed in pink at the top edge of the card is 'A New Baby - How Wonderful!'. Between these is a panel with a glitter background, covered with images of an assortment of baby clothes and equipment - a yellow babygro, a pink bib, white bootees, a pile of clean laundry with a brown teddy on top, a yellow comb and brush, a feeding bottle with a pink top, a white hat and mittens and a pink t-shirt. The babygro, bib and t-shirt are decorated with an image of the teddy's face. The paper insert is printed in dark pink. On the left-hand page is an image of part of a clothes line, pegged to which are a t-shirt, a teddy and a nappy. The greeting on the right-hand page reads 'There's nothing like a baby, So very small and new, To fill your home with happiness And make your dreams come true. Wishing You a Lifetime of Love'. On the back of the card are manufacturer's information and a bar code, all printed in black on a pale pink background.

Provenance

Purchased for the Museum of Childhood by Mrs Sue J. Fraser (Collections Assistant) in July 2007.
