Summary
A wooden two or three seater children's rocking chair. At either end of the curved rockers is a seat with a woven rattan base with a sloping back comprising five spindles and a shaped top rail. The shaped armrests have scrolled ends. In front of each seat is a rectangular footrest covered with a green carpet-like fabric with a floral pattern. In the centre between these two footrests is a triangular shaped wooden footrest also covered in the same fabric. The children would have pushed against this to set the chair in motion. Attached to the centre point of each rocker are two shaped vertical forks supporting a wooden rectangular frame, with a rattan seat. The shaped horizontal wooden bar at the top of each fork supports a pair of hinged wooden restraining bars which when raised allow access to the two seats and when lowered provide a hand support for each seat.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mrs Y. Buckland in May 1979.
