Summary
A child's white china plate with a scalloped edge and moulded decoration on the rim. A line of thick green paint runs around the centre of the rim. In the centre of the plate is a blue transfer image of a boy holding a shrub in his hands. In front of him is a watering can and four plants in pots. Beside him is another shrub. In the distance are trees and boats on the sea. Two lines of verse run above the image and one line below.
Marks and inscriptions
Centre of the plate, above and below the image: 'DR. FRANKLIN'S MAXIM'S/ Industry needs not wish. and he that lives upon hope will die fasting./ There are no gains without pains then help hands for I have no lands.'
