Summary
A German 'swing-stand' type rocking horse (circa 1908 - circa 1910) made from a brown hessian-type fabric called 'Burlap' - this cloth is woven from the Jute plant to produce a coarse, heavy fabric with a relatively open weave. It has a wooden nose, an open mouth with white painted teeth and black painted wooden hooves. It has brown and black glass eyes, real horse hide with hair ears and black horse hair mane and tail. The detached tail also contains black wool. The horse has a removable shaped saddle made of wood, canvas and leather and a leather harness which is partially missing. The rocking horse moves forwards and backwards on a wooden stand which incorporates two turned uprights and metal rods at the front and back. Total number of items is 3.
