Summary
A wooden dissected jigsaw puzzle entitled the ‘Progress of Wool’ (circa 1810). It consists of eight separate pictures showing the various processes and entitled ‘Sheep Washing’,’ Sheep Shearing’, ‘Weighing and Packing’, ‘Sorting Wool’, ‘The Dye House’, ‘Carding’, ‘Spinning’ and ‘Weaving’. The wooden slide off lid from the original box has a colour printed paper label stuck onto it. The label contains the title of the puzzle and the publisher’s details. The label has a rural scene of a sheepdog rounding sheep into a pen. There is a shepherd on the left and a shepherdess on the right. A small paper label above this one reads 'Dunnet’s Toy and Tunbridge Repository No.3, Cheapside'. A display label with the puzzle contains information on the name and publishing date of the puzzle, along with information about the images. It also noted that the descriptive booklet that would have been supplied with the puzzle has been lost. Total number of items is 35.
