Summary
An aircraft modelling kit (circa 1948) to make a Hawker Hurricane in a brown card box with removable lid. A printed label stuck to the lid shows a small blue aircraft towing a banner showing 'Atlanta', two circular targets on parallel lines in red, white and blue, with the manufacturer’s details. Two further labels, white with blue print, show a picture and explain more about the model. Inside the box is the material needed to make this flying model- along with plans printed on paper. The materials comprise of; tissue paper, 16 strips of balsa wood, 1 thicker piece, 5 printed sheets of balsa wood, 4 plain sheets, 3 shaped propellers, 1 packet of powder paint, 3 pieces of perspex, 1 piece of cellophane, 3 wheels, nose cone, and a metal tube of glue. The donor built model aircraft from the age of 12, usually on an old dining table in the day nursery. He lived in Burslem. he explained that he 'liked building rather than flying the craft'. Toal number of items is 43.
