Summary
A soft toy dog, made as a pyjama case, lying on its stomach. The dog is made of cream and brown fur fabric and has a cream body with brown ears, eye patches, tail and a heart shaped patch on the back. The brown and black glass eyes are secured by wire (one loose). The nose and paws are stitched in brown. The dog has a zip inserted underneath for access to the pyjamas inside. Labels sewn underneath read 'Merrythought Hygienic Toys, Made in England'.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mrs P Howis in 2006. Probably bought in Stoke-on-Trent about 1939/1940 and given to donor when she was about 4 by her grandfather, who was a potter working in Longton. The donor lived in Buxton and called the dog 'Spot'.
Marks and inscriptions
Sewn to the underside of the paw: 'Pamela J. Adlington'
