Summary
A mourning card in a wooden frame, mounted behind glass (circa 1865). The card is in a decorative surround resembling a grey metal frame with white angels on low relief above the card. The whole is backed by black card surrounded by a gilt inner frame. Outside the glass is a good quality wooden frame, black next to the glass, with a grained and varnished outer layer. Two metal rings in the back of the frame are joined by a loop of dark red cord. The card itself is cut out to resemble a churchyard scene with weeping trees and a bowed angel against a black background. The text reads; “In Memory of MARY ANN MOORE, Who departed this life May 4th 1865, AGED 7 YEARS AND 5 MONTHS, Jesus tender Shepherd hear me, Bless thy little Lamb to night; Through the darkness be Thou near me, Watch my sleep till morning light.”
