Summary
A Merit metal cash register. It has white keys that, when pressed down, cause a corresponding number to flag up in the window above the keys and the drawer below the keys to open. It has pre-decimalisation keys that have been altered to read 'p' instead of 'd'. The pre-decimalisation flags have been similarly altered. One key, that is for 10/-, does not work. There is one red key for 'no sale'. The main part of the cash register is painted with a pale purple metallic paint which is very rusty. The small shelf above the drawer is painted white. The drawer is painted grey and has a red label on the front which reads 'Merit' in gothic gold letters and below in small black letters 'Made in England'. The drawer has four compartments for cash and contains one old half penny and one five new pence piece.
