Summary
Three tinplate tankers; part of a larger train set. The first tanker is cylindrical in design with one circular disc at the centre top. The tanker is painted white and blue with four vertical grooves across the top. Printed in large red ink is 'Fresh Milk', and in the centre of this inscription is a white on black circular logo with the initials 'C.V'. Both these inscriptions are painted on both sides. The manufacturing detail, 'Chad Valley', is given in small black print on one side, and the other has the fictional weight capacity and address to return the empty tanker to. The cylindrical tanker rests on three rectangular struts on top of a black painted train base. The second tanker is nearly the same design as the first, again made by Chad Valley. The differences are that it has two circular discs on the top, instead of one, with one at each end. It is painted a silver colour with 'Regent' inscribed on both sides in blue print. The manufacturing details and fictional capacity etc is again given. The train base is painted red. The last of the three tankers is of a different manufacturer. It is smaller, with a yellow painted cylinder with a black disc moulded as part of it at the centre top. The cylinder is inscribed with 'Esso' on both sides with a dissecting horizontal line. Printed below in small black ink is 'Anglo American Oil Co Ltd, London, Made in England'. On each side of the cylinder is a sloping rectangle reading '495D Load, 14 Tons Tare 11-3-2.' in yellow ink. The train base is painted red with black metal wheels. Played with by the donor - circa 1950 to circa 1955. The sets could possibly made around 1940. Total number of items is 3.
