Summary
A school cap, from Denstone College, made up of eight segments of black velvet outlined in narrow gold-coloured braid (1868). There is a piece of broader braid around the edge, and two narrow bands around the edge of the stiff peak, which is lined with black velvet. The rest of the cap is lined with grey cotton. There is a shield topped by a crown, both made of gold braid, in the centre front segment, and a long tassel, made from metallic thread, attached to a large braid button at the crown. The tassel is quite tatty. A label sewn in the lining has the owner's name handwritten in ink, 'J.L. Smith', and the retailer's name embroidered on, 'A. Bodger and Co. Outfitters, Cambridge'. The lining is quite dirty.
