Summary
Three pieces of school equipment from Hognaston School. The first is a thermometer with a glass tube and ball housed within a rectangular wooden frame. On the left hand side of the frame is a range from 10 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit and on the right a range from -23 degrees to +50 degrees Celsius. There is a bulbous metal grill protecting the glass ball on the front of the thermometer. A label attached to the thermometer reads 'Hognaston School'. The second is a cream paper certificate on which is printed and handwritten in black and red ink the following: 'The National Society for Promoting Religious Education, Parton: Her Majesty The Queen. The Society desires to convey its congratulations to Hognaston Church of England School on the occasion of the 1872 Centenary, 1972, of the foundation of this School of the Church of England, and records with pride the witness which the School has made to true education and the maintenance of the Christian Faith in the tradition established through the ages since the first Church School was founded in the Sixth Century. Given under the hands of His Grace the President, the Chairman, and the General Secretary: Archbishop of Canterbury, Chairman, General Secretary'. The certificate is framed in a narrow black metal frame. The third is a small brass hand bell with a turned wooden handle. Inside the bell is a metal clapper hanging from a chain. The label attached to the hand bell reads 'Hognaston School'. Total number of items is 3.
