Summary
A puppet or ventriloquist's dummy, of a monkey suitable for family use and it’s original box (circa 1978). He was bought at Lewis' in Birmingham - named 'Lewie' by the family.He belonged to the donor's son Paul Wright when he was aged 9 years old (circa 1978). It is designed so that children are able to assist or carry out its manipulation, and was manufactured by Pelham Puppets. The jaw of the monkey is operated by a handle carrying a wire to which a string is attached inside the torso, entered by a slit in the fabric at the back of the red tunic. The lower limbs, made of padded fabric are clothed in a bright green fabric with blue, white and pink floral pattern. The furry feet have lilac coloured soles; the furry hands have pink palms. The head with its large articulated lower jaw, has prominent eyes with large black iris and white eyebrows, cheeks, nostrils, upper eyebrows are bright blue in colour. The furry head has bright orange sideburns. The original box is made of cardboard and printed in bright yellow, red, blue, purple, pink and black. It carries detail of the operating procedures and also other puppets in the same product range on offer from ‘Pelham’. Total number of items is 3.
