Summary
One of the puppets made for and used by the ‘Lilliput Marionette Theatre’. This marionette was not identified by former company members. However, it could possibly be a character from the play entitled 'Faust' as it is wearing a Tudor style costume similar in style to the other characters. A marionette puppet without a control. He is made of wood with painted face and legs with wooden swivel joints at the knee and metal joints at the neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, waist and hips. His hands are made of modelling material with a green sequin ring on the middle finger of his right hand. He has a mass of brown hair tied into a quiff at the back with a black ribbon. He has black eyes and sports a long brown hair moustache. He is dressed in black satin knee breeches trimmed with gold braid at the knee. Around his neck is a white cotton and lace cravat with a white lace jabot fastened with a diamante brooch. He has a shiny green and gold waistcoat, edged with gold ric-rac braid. His black velvet tailed jacket is edged with thick gold braid and lined with brown satin. A length of gold ric-rac braid runs down the centre of each tail. At the back of the waist are stitched two gold military buttons. The jacket has long sleeves finished with a deep turned-back cuff in black satin edged with gold braid and two gold military buttons on each cuff. Protruding from each cuff is a white cotton and lace sleeve frill. The jacket has a broad black satin collar edged with gold braid. On his shoulders are gold coloured leather epaulettes edged with broad gold fringing. His calves are painted white with black leather shoes with a broad gold buckle on each. Nylon fishing line is attached to some of his joints.
