Summary
One of the puppets made for and used by the ‘Lilliput Marionette Theatre’ (possibly the 'Ghost of Christmas Past') for the play entitled 'A Christmas Carol'. Possibly the first play to be created and performed by the theatre in the late 1940s. A marionette male tonsured figure of a monk, clothed in a beige coloured cloth habit, with hood, cape and apron. The leather belt at the waist has a rosary of black beads, sectioned by decorated beads but no cross. The hands are made of modelling plaster, coloured, and black leather simulated slippers cover the feet. The arms and legs are fully articulated and carry remnants of twine by which they were moved.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mr E Hellawell in 1982.
