Summary
One of the puppets made for and used by the ‘Lilliput Marionette Theatre’. This marionette was not identified by former company members. However, it could possibly be a character from the play entitled 'Faust' as it is wearing a Tudor style costume similar in style to the other characters. A marionette puppet of a woman chatelaine without a control. She is made of wood with metal and plaster hands. She is jointed at the neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist, waist, hip and knee. Her bare wooden legs have no feet. Her carved and painted wooden face has bulbous red cheeks, a humped and pointed nose, heavy blue eyelids with black eyes and brows. She has a dirty cream rep (corded fabric) bonnet edged with navy blue cord. This fits tightly around her face with two lappets falling from the crown at the back. Showing at the back is short dark brown hair. She is wearing a long dirty cream cotton dress lined with dark navy silky material. This is edged at the neck with black velvet. The leg of mutton sleeves have one black band at the elbow and two at the wrist. Around her neck is a stiff band of the rep (corded fabric) material. An apron of this material is tied around her waist with dirty cream cotton tape. Attached to her waist is a long metal chain with key ring and three metal keys. Beneath her dress is a red heavy cotton underskirt. Either side of her head is a metal eye with a loop of metal threaded over her head.
