Summary
One of the puppets made for and used by the ‘Lilliput Marionette Theatre’. A marionette puppet of a Scottish figure with an attached control. It is not known which play this character was used for. The strings from the figure lead to four separate control parts. The figure is clothed in Scottish dress, a plaid bonnet, tweed short jacket and waistcoat, short ‘trews’ and knee length kilt in green, red and yellow tartan. The lower leg has painted socks in the same tartan colours. The feet carry painted shoes, the heels originally had weighted plates on the heels and toes, and these are missing. All limbs are articulated and the head has eyes that open and close and a lower jaw that is also articulated, the strings passing through holes drilled in the head. The figure shows serious signs of wear and damage through usage. Total number of items is 2.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mr E Hellawell in 1982.
