Summary
One of the puppets made for and used by the ‘Lilliput Marionette Theatre’. This marionette was not identified by former company members, however, it is probably a character from the play entitled 'Faust' as it is similar in style to the other characters in this play. A marionette puppet dressed as a Tudor man. He has no control. His head is moulded and painted (in pink, yellow and blue) and he has an open mouth and pointed nose, a moustache (half of which is missing) and a beard. He wears a tricorn hat in pink and green decorated with gold coloured braid and a navy blue plume. His body is jointed at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, thighs, knees and ankles. His doublet and hose are made of stripes of green and pink fabric with lines of navy cord and pink and yellow braid in between. His legs and feet, one of which is detached, are painted in stripes of green, pink and black. His moulded hands are painted blue and he has blue leather gauntlets with holes to reveal pink fabric and braid decoration. He wears a sword at his waist which has a gold-coloured handle.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mr E Hellawell in 1982.
