Summary
One of the puppets made for and used by the ‘Lilliput Marionette Theatre’. This marionette was not identified by former company members, although it could have been used in the play 'Faust' as it is similar in style to the puppets identified in this play. A marionette puppet, male, with his strings attached to a single wooden bar. He has a pink painted plaster face with an opening mouth operated by a string through his nose. His eyes revolve. He has fat cheeks and has moulded black painted hair, eyebrows and eyelashes. He is jointed at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. He has a protruding stomach and is wearing burgundy coloured velvet knee breeches and a cream, silky, long-sleeved shirt with a high mandarin collar, with blue, silver and cream embroidery with a pink edging. At his waist is a band with a purple stripe in the middle and cream material either side patterned with a green leaf design. His lower limbs are painted white with plain wooden shoes. The body is padded to give a large protruding stomach. He is made of wood, with hands of metal covered with plaster. There is a modern white cord attached to his shoulders.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mr E Hellawell in 1982.
