Summary
One of the puppets made for and used by the ‘Lilliput Marionette Theatre’. This marionette was not identified by former company members, however, it is probably a character from the play entitled 'Faust' as it is similar in style to the other puppets used for this play. A marionette male figure with a breast plate decorated with green scrolls, over a costume of yellow duster like fabric, decorated with bands of alternating metallic narrow fabric, knotted, in silver and bronze-red colour. The hat has a green ostrich feather decoration over the brim, and the wooden carved face is bearded and moustached, an angular caricature. On his hands are red leather gauntlets, and the same colour decorates the black cavalier boots which have steel heel plates. The black full length cloak attached to the right shoulder has a yellow-gold lining. The figure has some remnant pieces of nylon fishing line and twine still attached. The arms and legs are fully articulated, and the head a single attachment. The marionette shows signs of wear and soiling.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mr E Hellawell in 1982.
