Summary
One of the puppets made for and used by the ‘Lilliput Marionette Theatre’. This marionette has been identified as a 'boy in blue medieval costume' and is from a play entitled 'Hansel and Gretel'. It is without a control. He has a moulded face with painted eyes, lips and cream-coloured skin and blonde artificial hair. He is jointed at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, knees and ankles with metal wire joints. His body is of wood with moulded hands. He wears a blue satin tunic with a silver belt, and trunk hose (short puffed breeches), and his legs are painted white to represent white hose. His shoes are of matching blue satin. The left hand has been broken and mended. He may be one of the children (Edmund) from the Narnia books.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Mr E Hellawell in 1982.
