Summary
One of the puppets made for and used by the ‘Lilliput Marionette Theatre’. This marionette is a called a 'drowned sailor' and is from a play entitled 'The Little Mermaid' and was also used as a pirate in the play entitled 'Faust'. The head and features, which include an open mouth and missing tooth, are modelled in a compound then painted. The body and limbs are carved painted wood, while the hands and feet are modelled like the head. It is jointed at the waist, neck, shoulders, elbows, hips, knees and ankles using a metal pins. He is wearing a brown and orange striped cotton scarf tied round his head and a black and white spotted one round his neck. His shirt of white linen has rolled up sleeves. He has a short waistcoat of black leather and blue denim knee length jeans with slashed hems and an orange patch on the right knee. His left leg has a white stocking and a light brown leather shoe, whilst the right leg is bare. He has a light brown leather belt with a large silver coloured buckle. He has black side-boards and there is black hair stuck to his chest, forearms and shin. There is a drawn hearts design tattoo on the left forearm. It has a control, the wooden cross bar, with it. The wooden control seems complete.
