Summary
A 1960s plastic Peggy Nisbet doll (possibly from her 'Portrait Doll' series) portraying William Shakespeare (1564-1616). Series number P.617. His head has moulded and painted facial features and his hair is painted. The arms are jointed at the shoulders but the legs are fixed. He is wearing a short black satin cloak edged with gold braid. Beneath this he has a long sleeved black jacket which has lace cuffs and a ruff round the neck. He has a red satin waistcoat, a turquoise satin doublet with gold and black braid, cream knee length breeches, red stockings and yellow leather shoes. His feet are tucked under a spring which holds him to a metal stand. He holds a scroll of paper in his right hand. Attached to the left wrist is a label which reads 'Collectors Costume Dolls by Peggy Nisbet, Made in England' on the outside and 'P/617, William Shakespeare, Dramatist and Poet, 1564-1616', on the inside.
