Summary
A 1960s plastic Peggy Nisbet costume doll portraying Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, marquise de Pompadour (1721-1764) from her 'Historical Dolls' series. Series number H.227. Her face has moulded and painted facial features. Her white hair is dressed in a bouffant style and has a fabric flower on the left side. She wears a short sleeved pale pink nylon dress, the low bodice decorated with three white ribbon bows, two fabric roses on each shoulder and lace edging to the sleeves. The overskirt is of the same material as the dress, has a front opening which is edged with wavy pink gathered frills, with a fabric flower at each turn. The dress has a gathered frill at the hem decorated with similar flowers. Underneath she wears a white lace edged petticoat, another similar petticoat with two bands of stiffening to form a crinoline, and a pair of lace edged nylon pantaloons. On her feet are pale blue fabric shoes. There is a metal stand with a spring to hold the doll. She holds a pale blue fabric bag in her right hand. A black label attached to the doll states 'H/227 Madame Pompadour, 1721-1764' and 'Collectors Costume Dolls by Peggy Nisbet, Made in England'. Total number of items is 2.
