Summary
A 1960s Peggy Nisbet plastic doll from her 'English Historical Costumes' or possibly from her 'Portrait Dolls' series) and portraying Sir Francis Drake (1540?-1596), and made out of plastic. Series number P.622. He has moulded and painted facial features and hair with a painted brown beard. On his head is a black polyester cap with a white feather. Drake wears a black artificial fabric cloak lined with red artificial silk. Around his neck is a small white artificial silk ruff. He has a red and gold coloured brocade jacket and knee length artificial fabric socks. His shoes are black leather and he is standing upon a metal base. Attached to her arm is a folded label that gives details of the doll’s maker, character and a short history. Attached to Drake's sleeve is a manufacturer's label with the following information; 'Collectors/ Costume/ Dolls/ by/ Peggy/ Nisbet/ MADE IN ENGLAND' On the inside is 'P/622/ English Historical Costumes/ Sir Francis Drake/ Admiral of the Fleet/ which routed Spanish/ Armada/ 1540-1595'
