Summary
A 1960s plastic Peggy Nisbet doll from her 'Scottish Historical Figures' or possibly from her 'Portrait Doll' series' portraying Mary Seaton, one of the 'Four Marys' who accompanied Mary Queen of Scots to France (1542-1615). Series number P.628. She has moulded and painted facial features and moveable arms. Her blonde hair is covered by a black velvet snood with a band of turquoise brocade criss-crossed with silver braid and dotted with small pearls. Her dress has a bodice and front skirt insert of gold and white striped brocade with leg of mutton sleeves and decorated with small pearls at throat and wrists. She has a ruffle of white lace at the neckline. Her overskirt and broad waist band are in turquoise brocade embroidered in silver. Beneath this she has two white satin petticoats stiffened with white net. Beneath these is a long white cotton shift. She has white knitted stockings and shoes in the figured brocade. She stands on an oval silver metal stand with a spring across her feet. A string attached to her left wrist holds a folded card which reads 'Collectors Costume Dolls by Peggy Nisbet, Made in Scotland'. Inside in black on cream it reads 'P628, Scottish Historical Figures, Mary Seaton'
