A 1960s plastic Peggy Nisbet doll possibly from her 'Scottish Historical Figures' or 'Historical Dolls' series and portraying Mary Livingston (1541-1579). Series number H.245. She has moulded and painted facial features and movable arms. Her brown hair is covered by a black velvet snood with a broad band over her head of emerald green satin decorated with gold and white braid, two small pearls and three green diamante stones. Her square necked emerald green dress is decorated at the neck with the braid, pearls and diamante. There is a front skirt-inset of white brocade, highly decorated with silver thread. The long emerald satin sleeves have huge turn back cuffs of white fur. Beneath her skirt she has two cream satin petticoats stiffened with white net. Under these is a straight cream linen shift. Her feet have black painted shoes. She stands on an oval metal silver base with a coil spring over her feet. In her right hand she holds a single fold card reading 'Collectors Costume Dolls by Peggy Nisbet, Made in Scotland' in cream on red, and inside in black on cream is 'Scottish Historical Series, Lady-in-waiting to Mary Queen of Scots, H 626, Mary Livingstone'.
