Summary
A 1960s plastic Peggy Nisbet doll from her 'Royal Miniature Figures' or 'Historical Dolls' series dressed as Queen Catherine Parr (1512–1548). Series number H.223. She has a painted and moulded face. Only a small amount of black hair shows on her forehead. The rest is covered by her hat. This has a fitted blue satin band framing her face and is decorated with gold thread and narrow blue braid with pearls and blue shiny jewels. Attached to this at the back is a long black velvet snood. Her blue satin dress has a tightly fitting square-necked bodice edged with the same braid, pearls and jewels. This tapers to a point at the front of the waist. The long blue satin sleeves have huge hanging cuffs in brown fur fabric. The long blue satin skirt is pleated at the back and fans out to form a train. At the front is a stiff, cream, figured brocade, triangular, insert edged with gold and white braid. This insert is stitched to a yellow satin petticoat stiffened with yellow net. Beneath this is another yellow stiffened petticoat and beneath that a long straight cream linen petticoat. Her legs are painted white with gold painted flat shoes. She stands on an oval metal stand with a long grey metal spring over her feet. A string attached to her left wrist holds a card which reads 'Collectors/ Costume/ Dolls/ by/ Peggy/ Nisbet/ MADE IN ENGLAND/ Royal Miniature Figures/ H/ 221/ Catherine Howard/ 5th Queen of King Henry/ VIII/ Beheaded 1542/ 1520-1542'.
