Summary
A 1960s 'Peggy Nisbet' doll from her 'Royal Miniature Figures' or 'Historical Dolls' series and made to resemble Queen Catherine (of Aragon) (1485-1536). Series number H.219. She has painted facial features and dark brown nylon hair, parted down the middle and plaited into two coils at the back. Over this she wears a black velvet headdress with a black and gold braid strip framing her face. This is decorated with four turquoise and three orange shiny jewels. Her dress of peach coloured flower patterned damask has a square-necked fitted bodice coming to a point at the waist. The gathered skirt is longer at the back forming a train. The long sleeves have huge hanging cuffs in gold-coloured shiny material. The neckline is edged with narrow black lace studded with pearls and gold-coloured jewels. Beneath her dress she wears two blue shiny satin petticoats lined with blue net. Beneath these is a straight white cotton petticoat. Flat black shoes are painted on her plastic feet. She has an oval metal stand with a coil spring which fits over her feet. Attached to her arm is a label saying on the outside 'Collectors/ Costume/ Dolls/ by/ Peggy Nisbet/ MADE IN ENGLAND'. Inside it says 'Royal Miniature Figures/ H.219/ Katherine of Aragon/ 1st Queen of King Henry/ VIII/ Divorced 1533/ 1485-1536'.
