Summary
Two packs of lexicon cards in the original box (circa 1940). One pack consists of fifty-one cards and the other fifty. Each pack contains a Master card, a red covered book of instructions and two cards, one addressed to Hostesses and the other a card stating that this is a special 2-pack case suitable for presentation. Each card has a black printed letter in the centre, a letter in each opposing corner and a number in every corner. The reverse of each card has a design in red and white printing ink. The box is in two parts in the shape of a book. The outer cover is red with the makers name, ‘Waddington’s’, at the top and the name of the game in an oval surround. The inner piece is covered in gold covered paper. There is also lettering on the spine of the ‘book’. Total number of items is 111. Waddington’s – 1922 to 1994 Founded as Waddingtons Limited as a printing business. The name then changed from Waddingtons Limited to Waddington's House of Games. In 1905 Waddington's House of Games changed their name to John Waddington Limited. In 1922 John Waddington Limited changed their name to Waddington Games. The last name change was from Waddington Games to Waddingtons. In 1971 Waddingtons bought out Alf Cooke. In 1994 Waddingtons was bought out by Hasbro.
