Summary
A card game in its original box which bears the title 'HAPPY FAMILIES' (circa 1920). There are ten 'families' of four cards, each with a yellow back and a picture of a family member and his or her name on the front. The pictures are printed in colour and range from ‘Mr Atkins the Soldier’ to ‘Milly Tube, the Artist's Daughter’. Also in the box is a card printed in black detailing the instructions for playing the game. The original box consists of a base and a lid, both made of cardboard covered with paper. The base is covered in plain purple, the lid printed with blue and black stripes round the sides, and the title running down each side of the yellow top. Also printed on the top is a child in a clown style costume with a frilly white shirt, orange and black dungarees, and red shoes with bells at the fronts. The manufacturers name, ‘Chad Valley’, is printed at the bottom. The edges of the box are slightly scuffed and there is a white deposit on the lid, but the cards are in very good condition. Total number of items is 43.
