Summary
A sampler stitched in coloured threads by a Mary Mowbray. In the centre of the canvas is a coat of arms with a yellow lion and a cream unicorn, flanked on either side by red flowers in red pots. Above are a pair of red and green crowns, two cream hearts, two brown anchors and a pale blue orb. At the bottom is stitched Mary Mowbray/ 1853.
Marks and inscriptions
On the label on the reverse of the picture: 'Derbyshire Education Committee/ SCHOOL MUSEUM SERVICE/ 10.5 49/1' On the reverse of the picture: 'Presented to Mrs. Church of/ Heath Girls Council School/ Worked by her aunt Mary Mowbray,/ at the age of 8 at Tibshelf National School.'
