Summary
A child's fine cream linen pinafore worn by a baby in 1892 (as stated by the donor). The garment has three tiny pin tucks parallel with the hem, trimmed with lace at the neck and on the frills at the top of the armholes. At the front are three inset panels of broderie anglaise which extend down from the neck almost to the waist, the centre one longer than the others. At the centre front the fabric is gathered with another broderie anglaise panel. This is horizontal, and has a long fabric tie sewn to each end, each of these edged with lace at the end. The pinafore fastens at the back of the neck with a narrow cotton tape which is threaded through the neck edge. There are a few small tears which have been mended.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Miss B K Humphreys in 1990.
