Summary
A child's fine cream linen pinafore worn by a baby in 1892 (as stated by the donor). The garment has three tiny pin tucks parallel with the hem, trimmed with lace at the neck and on the frills at the top of the armholes. The central section of the front is gathered between two horizontal inset panels of broderie anglaise, one along the neck edge and the other at the waist, which therefore also gathers the lower part. The panel at the waist has a long fabric tie sewn to each end, each of these edged with lace at the end. The pinafore fastens at the back of the neck with a narrow cotton tape which is threaded through the neck edge.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Miss B K Humphreys in 1990.
