Summary
A pre 1914 (possibly) black 'Topsy' doll (Topsy was a character from the book 'Uncle Tom's Cabin) with a composition head with moulded facial features and moulded hair. The facial features are painted. The body (which is homemade), legs and arms are made of black stockinette which is stuffed. The wrists and ankles are rudely depicted with gathering. She is wearing a knitted pale orange fabric dress with a zigzag self coloured design, which is trimmed with a pale blue frill down the front of the bodice and around the hem. She is wearing a nappy of the same fabric secured with brass safety pins. Pinned to the bodice of the dress is an orange string with a dummy attached.
