Summary
A bisque doll dressed in such a way as to be used as a pincushion. She has moulded and painted facial features and dark glass eyes. She has shoulder-length ash-blonde mohair hair with a straight fringe. Her arms are jointed at the shoulder, and her legs are jointed at the hips. She has white socks and black shoes painted on. Her dress (to be used as a pincushion) consists of a very long piece of cream woollen fabric, blanket-stitched around the edges, and attached at the waist. Covering this is a single piece of pale green silk ribbon which has had a hole cut in it to go over the doll's head. There is a cream lace frill at the neck. Underneath she has a cream linen petticoat edged with lace, and pantaloons of similar fabric. Around her waist is tied a long piece of the same thread used for the blanket-stitching. The silk ribbon is very fragile as it is starting to shatter. Also in the box is a piece of paper which has three dressmaker's pins pushed into it, and has 'Pins removed from this exhibit' typed on it. Total number of items is 5.
Provenance
Donated to the Museum of Childhood by Miss P. Challens in June 1976.
